The first 27 Arab terrorists slated for release from Israeli prison are due to be set free before the next round of talks, most likely next week. The 27 will be the first of 104 terrorists being released by Israel as talks with the PA (Palestinian Authority) resume. At present, they are scheduled to be let out of prison on 6 Elul 5773.
Seeking to add an air of legitimacy to the release of convicted murderers, Justice Minister Tzipi Livni released a message that the prisoners would only be set freee “if the negotiations are serious”, using the standard buzz words associated with such acts including “a painful concession” as she described the need to continue negotiating with the PA towards reaching a final status agreement.
Livni added that while four months ago PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) was demanding an Israeli withdrawal to the pre-June 1967 boundaries, today the PA is less extreme in its demands. She also points out there is no building freeze in Yehuda and Shomron and this too was a precondition of the PA a number of months ago.
