The Sephardic Chief Rabbi of Israel, Hagaon Harav Yitzchak Yosef, and the Lakewood Rosh Yeshiva, Hagaon HaRav Malkiel Kotler, met last night, in what is being called a “historic meeting”.
Rav Yosef has been in New York for the past week. He came for a Chasunah, and has been visiting many Sephardic Yeshivas and Mosdos around the Tri-State area, giving the community Chizuk, and delivering many Shiurim.
The Lakewood Rosh Yeshiva, Hagaon HaRav Malkiel Kotler spent this past Shabbos in the same community, delivering many Drashos and speaking at many of the major Sephardic Shuls in the community – including Shaarei Zion.
The two Gedolim met a Melava Malka in Flatbush last night.

Aside from the fact that the two rabbonim had not crossed paths previously, what is “historic” about this meeting? Rav Yosef meets with Rav Lau and other chashuve Askenazic/Litvish rabbonim routinely (and we have seen many videos here of such events). Was there some prior broigas between between Rav Ovadia and Rav Aharon?
It’s actually sad that a meeting of these two towering personalities, is considered “historic”.
A zionist rabbi and a non-zionist rabbi getting together is historic these days. Nice to see them all get along.
Why this attention grabbing headline for??
Both the Chief Rabbi and the Rosh Yeshiva are well known to routinely meet and interact with all Yidden.
Yirbu Kemosam Beyisrael.
Rabbi Yosef is not necessary a Zionist
The title of the Rishon LeSion has been around for hundreds of years. Now it happens to be under the state.
Just because he works with the Medina doesn’t make him a Zionist.
Two Gedolim . ONE Gd.
Why does everything with you guys have to be about “Zionism”? The two big rabbis met. It was nice. Can’t we just leave t at that?
