Chareidim Recited Slichos During Plenum Vote on Draft

tehillThe Knesset session preceding the vote on the Peri Committee Share the Burden Bill began at about midnight on the eve of 16 Menachem Av 5773. No less than 66 elected officials registered to speak in a session that was to last four hours before the bill came up in plenum for a first vote. The bill passed in a 64-21 vote. Despite promises and efforts not to permit any blow to the yeshivos, Bayit Yehudi voted with the coalition for the draft bill.

Yahadut Hatorah and some Shas MKs took part in tefilos, slichos and shofar blowing outside the plenum session. They were joined by chareidi journalists, parliamentary aides and some of the traditional Yidden employed in Knesset.

The bill itself was presented to the floor by Minister of Science & Technology (Yesh Atid) Yaakov Peri, who headed the Ministerial Share the Burden Committee.

  1. “The bill itself was presented to the floor by Minister of Science & Technology (Yesh Atid) Yaakov Peri, who headed the Ministerial Share the Burden Committee.”

A little correction in yidish, Ministerial Share the Burd -en payos Committee.

  2. “Bayit Yehudi voted with the coalition for the draft bill.”

No need to worry. Bennett promised us he would never harm the Bnei Torah.

  3. It took 65 years for the Sephardim and other Charedim to see what the Zionists are all about, while the Satmar Rebbe zt”l saw it already 65 years ago!!

  4. Besides blowing Shofar, they should have Shokald Lulav, counted Sefirrah, said Taashlich, Kiddush Levonoh, Metzitza Bpeh, Mishloach Monos, Etc.

  5. Remember my words its all until G-D will say its enough,
all those who raised their hands / heads over the torah trying to destroy it lost at the end, see what was the end of the beryonim, the torah blossomed and they were gone.

  6. torah and prayer cannot protect the hedeim from the draft but want everybody to believe that it protects the nation from missiles

  7. #6- R. Sonnenfeld saw it 100 years, and actually tried to do something about,, and might have prevented the war had the zionists not murdered Dr. De Haan.

  8. Poster #6 joins the list of posters claiming that almost every other gadol besides for the Satmar Rav, was wrong. That statement takes a big achrayus.

  9. To all who trump and harrumprh :What about others who serve?

    So STOP serving,sil vous plait
but if you feel the urge to waste your lives ,your problem.

The state had some value worth serving(to real israelis in e.g. Afula, Beit She’an)
    if somehow the atmosphere
    was still nebulously jewish,
    now it should just dissolve

  10. Yanky55 #5 and Ader #7:
Your comments smack of Apikorsus and simple hatred of Judaism.
What do YOU do when you’re in an Eis Tzarah? Go to church? or take Valium?

  11. Peakman #9: Why would an atheist like you even want to read YWN? Aren’t there better sites for non-believers like you?

  12. so I’m confused – my kids will devote years in yeshiva & army – they’ll be in their late 20s before they can seriously get on with their lives, whilst Haredi community is literally ripping shirts at the thought their children will either serve in the army or Chas v’Shalom, perform community service in the country they are citizens of… why is this bad???? How does this show Zionism wants to hurt Torah?

  13. btw perhaps Hashem is presenting us all with an opportunity? The only way Haredim can be better understood by the rest of Israeli public (and equally can better understand the motivations and lives of non Haredi israelis) is to be together – if Haredi Torah education is worth the sefarim it is written on, these young Bnei Torah could have a fantastic impact on the wider community, brining more learning & Shabbat observance to more people – again – how is this bad??
