Two of New York’s top officials are making waves in the Adirondacks.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg will paddle down the Indian River in a whitewater rafting race at noon Monday on the second day of Cuomo’s inaugural Adirondack Challenge festival in Indian Lake.
Cuomo and a host of other state and local officials and business leaders participated in paddling events as the festival kicked off on Sunday in the Hamilton County village. Cuomo says the festival is designed to draw attention to the recreational opportunities in the Adirondacks and boost tourism.
Sunday’s events included regional foods, live music, an art show and fly-fishing demonstrations. Professional and amateur paddlers competed over a 15-mile stretch of the river before the Governor’s Invitational race Sunday afternoon.
