France’s Ban on Veils Leads to Violence

burqa2At least four policemen were injured as a result of violence last week in France surrounding attempted enforcement of the veil ban. Rioting resulted and a number of suspects were arrested in the town of Trappes as police were pelted with rocks and other objects by the hundreds of protesters.

Of pedestrian injured is a 14-year-old boy who was apparently struck in an eye with a stone, resulting in a serious injury. The rioters indiscriminately set bus shelters and other objects ablaze. Police armed with batons and teargas restored order.

According to French law, a husband can face a 30,000 € fine for compelling his wife to wear a face veil and the female covering her face can be fined as well.

Law enforcement agencies are experiencing difficulties and resistance enforcing the law as the Muslim community prefers to defy it it rather than abide by it.

  1. If a government banned yarmukles for men, or made it illegal for women to cover their hair (not to suggest that a certain government is considering such), we’ld probably act the same way.

  2. At least the French police have the courage to enforce the law of the land, unlike our Temple Mount police who are scared to follow the court edicts and allow Jews to ascend (and maybe even move their lips!)

  3. #1 You’re comparing apples to oranges. It’s not as if women cover their hair along with their faces and men do so with their kipa. Complete veils is very dangerous. You never know who’s behind it. If only Israel would have the courage to ban those veil wearing BTs or expel them.
