R’ Boaron: I Will Work to Separate the Chief Rabbinate from Politics

boaronWith Chief Rabbinate elections days away, 17 Menachem Av 5773, HaRav Tzion Boaron explains that he will work to pull the Chief Rabbinate away from politics if elected as the next Sephardi Chief Rabbi of Israel. In his letter sent to members of the 150-person voting body, the rav explains that this will be a priority for him, setting a distinct division between the Chief Rabbinate and politics.

“In recent years for one reason or another, the Chief Rabbinate’s image has been tarnished. “Many people today believe the Chief Rabbinate must urgently be streamlined and strengthened.

“On the advice of rabbonim and friends I decided there is a time for silence and when I must act and with fear and trepidation I accepted this as a time to act. :There is no personal honor at stake here, but rather work L’Shem Shomayim, Holy work on behalf of Am Yisrael.”

The rav explains just how essential the Chief Rabbinate of Israel is for citizens and why his election to the post will permit him to restore the organization to its former glory for the good of citizens and the Jewish People.

Rav Boaron is endorsed by outgoing Rishon L’Tzion HaGaon HaRav Moshe Shlomo Amar and is viewed as the chief contender to Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef, a son of Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef Shlita who is also vying for the post.
