The National Weather Service says an excessive heat warning and an air quality alert have been issued for the New York City area.
The Weather Service predicts a high temperature around 99 on Friday – and a heat index as high as 108.
The excessive heat warning is in effect from 11 a.m. to until 8 p.m. Friday. The air quality alert runs from 11 a.m. to midnight.
On Saturday, a high of around 94 is predicted – with a heat index as high as 101 degrees.
But heavy rain is expected, and that should cause gradual cooling starting on Sunday.
