Delivering his most explicit racial count since losing the mayorship 20 years ago, David N. Dinkins says in a forthcoming memoir that he barely won the New York City mayoral election in 1989 and lost four years later for one reason: because he is black.
“I think it was just racism, pure and simple,” Mr. Dinkins writes.
Mr. Dinkins recently expressed his support of Bill Thompson for mayor
Republican mayoral hopeful Joe Lhota, who served as Deputy mayor in the Giuliani administration, criticized Mr. Dinkins for reducing the debate to incitable comments. “David Dinkins is wrong to claim that is why he lost his re-election,” said Mr. Lhota. “He’s doing a disservice to New Yorkers by reducing the debate to incitable comments about race. Both Democrats and Republicans voted him out of office because he was incapable of governing the city.”
“When I am mayor, I will have an open door with every community and represent every New Yorker equally. The fact of the matter is, people from all political persuasions and ethnicities voted Mr. Dinkins out of office. He owes all New Yorkers an apology,” he added.

Dinkins lost because of the high crime & the Crown Heights disaster.
He lost because he was the worst mayor this city ever had. Bob Grant was right when he called him a “fancy bathroom attendant” and a ” fancy guy with a mustache”.

he has a lot of chutzpah since he let the blacks run wide in Crown heights for 3 days. He had done more to destroy race relations. Look at the fine relations in Crown Heights to day. Dinkins was an idiot than and still is one
