The two chareidi men arrested for their alleged assault against police in last week’s confrontation in Meah Shearim were released from jail on Monday, erev Tisha B’Av 5773. The two were arrested for allegedly assaulting police who arrived in the community to extricate a chareidi IDF soldier who was attacked by residents.
The Jerusalem District Court on Tuesday ordered their release despite objections by the prosecutor, citing the defendants do not have a criminal past. The prosecutor was given 24 hours in which the decision may be appealed to the High Court of Justice.
