New Director-General: This Ministry is Extraneous & Should be Closed

closedFormer senior Israel Police officer Dan Ronen has been appointed director-general of the Ministry of Homefront Affairs. Interestingly, less than a year ago in an opinion column Ronen wrote the establishment of the new office “is politically motivated”, stating the new office interferes with other bodies already responsible for the same issues and it should be closed.

Today, appointed to run its day-to-day operations, one may expect Ronen to speak highly of this invaluable ministry. Ronen replaces former IDF major-general, Gabi Ofir.

Homefront Minister Gilad Erdan did not hesitate showering his new director-general with praise, stating he is the most qualified among those who were considered for the post. Erdan explains that he knows the country, the homefront, and has a wealth of experience in matters of protecting the homefront and addressing missile attacks because he is a former Israel Police Northern District Commander.

However, it appears that Erdan was unaware of the opinion piece released by Ronen 11 months ago on Ynet, an opinion that leaves him somewhat embarrassed today, for it was Ronen who said the responsibilities of the ministry belong to the Ministry of Public Security and the Homefront Ministry should be shut down.
