The Democratic mayoral candidates, seeking the Minority/now majority vote, joined the flood of outrage tonight following the not guilty verdict in the racially-charged trial of George Zimmerman for the killing of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin.
Bill Thompson, currently polling low among Black and Hispanic voters, didn’t think twice before tweeting a pretty racial comment, while Public Advocate Bill de Blasio slammed the Justice system for acquitting Zimmerman based on Jury decision.
Trayvon Martin was killed because he was black. There was no justice done today in Florida.

Trayvon Martin's death was a terrible tragedy. This decision is a slap in the face to justice. #nojusticefortrayvon
— Bill de Blasio (@deBlasioNYC) July 14, 2013
Republican City Councilman Eric Ulrich criticized the response. “Zimmerman verdict is proof that innocence until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt is still the cornerstone of the justice system,” he tweeted, adding that, “The rights of the accused cannot be compromised by the court of public opinion. Everyone is entitled to a fair trial.”
He further went after Mr. Thompson for his statement, saying he was “extremely disappointed with the amount of race baiting and political pandering on Twitter tonight” and that he would “expect this type of remark from [Rev. Al Sharpton] not from you.”
Many Orthodox Jewish voters, who had tasted the bitterness of racial conflict, expressed their dismay over the leading candidates’ reactions.
Leading in internal polls, in the Orthodox Jewish community, the Two Bill’s may have lost some voters tonight.
Most of the tweeps below hardly tweet or comment on a daily basis. Thus their reaction tonight is telling.

Anthony Weiner was,so far, the most reasonable in his reaction:
Keep Trayvon's family in our prayers. Deeply unsatisfying verdict. Trial by jury is our only choice in a democracy.

de blazio is a funny politician! I never understood why Jews fell/fall for him
He told me years ago -with a straight face- when asked if he believes we should privatize the FAILING public zoo/school system and the usage of school Vouchers?
His response; “The public system is excellent, its as good as private schools…”
I rest my case!!!
They are race baiters in the same vain as al not too sharpton & jesse jerkson. Is there anyone normal to vote for in NYC?
That’s some pretty sickening pandering on the part of all three of them.
And highly irresponsible in the face of threatened rioting. Certainly none of those three ought to be mayor.
Stop being an editorial board and go back to being a news source.. there were no polls unless u went and asked ur grandmother and aunt on the effects on the polls from the zimmerman trial…stop pushing your agenda and results you want on the population…
Wow, this is shocking. I live in Florida and I was very nervous about the local reaction, both in Trayvon Martin’s home area, and how the reaction might spill over to other neighborhoods, as it did 15 months ago. I am happy to report that everything was really quiet here, B”H. Trayvon’s parents and lawyers urged acceptance without violence. These tweets were far more racially charged and incendiary than anything coming out out Florida. Shame on the “Bills”.
how many of these do gooders had an opinion when oj was acquitted
when everyone knew that he committed those murders? how come I only hear from them when the accused is white or simply not black
Boruch Hashem the true colors of both Bills came out BEFORE the elections. Let all new Yorkers remember this when it is time to vote. Lest not forget the crown heights riots under a anti-Semite black mayor.
NEVER AGAIN
Hellooo, Bill:
How could you!
I voted for you against Bloomberg. You’re a mentsch.
You have wide support in the Boro-Park Orthodox community.
You are clearly, hands-down, the most honorable of all the candidates of either party.
You were our hope; the REAL ‘post-racial’ candidate. A class act.
Alas, too good to be true.
Did you drink Saturday nite ??
Did someone twist your arm ??
Is it really your true feelings?
Were you pandering?
For a vote that you won’t get, and wouldn’t help anyway?
Why couldn’t you just say, “I believed otherwise – but the jury system let me down”
Why insert the ‘Black’ thing?
I had thought that you’re a natural healer; you certainly let me down.
You may not be sorry for that; But I sure am.
Your erstwhile supporter.
I wouldn’t call Dinkins an anti-Semite, just a spineless liberal. Unfortunately a spineless mayor can have similar disastrous results as an anti-Semite.
Seems all our Democrat choices now are just as bad as Dinkins was. Let’s hope the Mayor to be (if one of those) is “only” pandering for votes and will get some sense once he has the responsibility of governing.
To Mark Levin:
Yes, you can & should vote for Erick Salgado. He is “normal” & cares about the Frumah’s needs. He is also the ONLY candidate that stands for Traditional Marriage (think DOMA) and is proudly Pro Life. He is also the ONLY candidate that has said clearly, without any wiggle room, that he WILL overturn the Anti Metzitza biPeh “law” & rid us from all those corrupt “yes men” on the “health” commision.
Erick is the ONLY choice for a Ben Torah to vote for.
Orthodox Jews Dump “The Yeshivh World” for being stupid & irresponsible.
Why do you need to pull bad attention from the media.
