The High Court of Justice on Wednesday, 25 Tammuz 5773 rejected a petition filed by a number of chareidi families against government plans to cut monthly child assistance payments. Justices Asher Grunis, Chanan Meltzer and Noam Solberg explained that since the Knesset has not rendered a final decision in the matter, the case cannot be heard at this time. The court did not rule out hearing such a petition in the future following a Knesset ruling.
Petitioners Yechiel Rosenbaum, Yaakov Rutenstein, Yochanan Lev and Menachem Gruenbaum, the decision to drastically cut the government assistance payments is not logical and according to the experts, it will send 50,000 children to a live of poverty. They base their position on remarks made over recent weeks by experts including Bituach Leumi senior officials.
