Rav Dov Lior Backs Rav Igra’s Candidacy for Chief Rabbi

liorHaGaon HaRav Dov Lior Shlita, a leading posek in the dati leumi community, has come out supporting Dayan Rav Eliezer Igra in his bid to become the next Chief Rabbi of Israel. The rav sent a letter to members of the 150 person voting body, expressing his support for the rav, who hopes to become Israel’s next Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi.

In his letter Rav Lior uses terms including “a tzaddik, modest, humble, talmid chacham” and “Yirei Shomayim”. Rav Lior adds that the rav is an experienced dayan who has sat on cases involving all four sections of Shulchan Aruch.

Also signed on the letter of support were Rabbi Dimantman (Rav Kehillas Ohel Chaim/Rehovot), Rabbi Yazer Ariel (former dayan in Tzfas and Tiveria and a Kiryat Arba rosh kollel specializing in training dayanim), and Rabbi Mordechai Nagari (Sephardi Chief Rabbi of Maale Adumim).

Rav Lior and the others are not in favor of Rabbi David Stav, who is mustering support for his bid to become the next Chief Rabbi of Israel.

  1. The “israel desk” of YWN should check its sources and correct misinformation. Rav Igra is a candidate for Rishom Letzion- Sefardi Chief Rabbi-he s of yemenite descent. He is NOT running against Rav Stav.
