5:35PM (Tuesday): Emergency personnel are on the scene at Astroland in Coney Island, after the “Astro-Tower” started swaying in the wind. Numerous FDNY, NYPD, and NYC Building Department personnel are all on the scene. The entire Luna Park has been evacuated, and emergency crews are attempting to ascertain the stability of the tower.
It is interesting to note, that YWN found a video on YouTube dated “May 26 2010” titled “Astro Tower Sways in the Breeze at Luna Park”. Below the video, the individual who published writes the following: The AstroTower was swaying in the breeze today as Luna Park Construction continues in Coney Island…..Coney Island historian Charles Denson assured me that this was normal and this occurs whenever the wind blows in a certain direction.
