While the students attending Israel’s public schools just began their vacation this week, there is already talk about delaying the opening of the 5774 school year due to the lack of funding for security in the nation’s schools. According to Union of Local Authority officials, Israel Police has not transferred funding as required, now in arrears to the tune of 100 million NIS.
While the Union of Local Authorities funds 36% of the school security budget, the remainder is supposed to come from Israel Police.
Israel Police officials explain funds are transferred in line with budgeting allocations received by the department and because the budget was only recently approved, there has been a delay in transferring the school security funding.
