Minister of Transportation Yisrael Katz explained to members of the Knesset Finance Committee on Monday, 16 Tammuz 5773, that Israel has committed to evacuate the S’dei Dov and Herzliya Airports and there is an immediate need to build new airports.
Katz explained that Ben-Gurion International Airport is built to accommodate a maximum of 16 million travelers annually and today, over 13 million pass through annually and that number continues to climb. Therefore he explains, there is an immediate need to arrive at a decision regarding the location of additional airports and to begin the projects.
