After enduring a Shabbos accompanied by significant pain, Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef Shlita on Sunday morning was admitted to Jerusalem’s Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital. Family members of the Gadol Hador wanted the rav to go to the hospital on Shabbos, but he refused. It appears he was in so much pain that he did not make it to his beis medrash for tefilos. The rav did not give his motzei Shabbos shiur either.
Rabbi Yosef was taken to Hadassah on Sunday morning, 15 Tammuz 5773 where tests will be performed in the hope of determining the cause of the rav’s severe pain. One of the possibilities is that he sustained a hairline fracture in the recent fall in his home which was undetected earlier. Kikar Shabbat reports the gadol may have to undergo back surgery.
At 17:30 on Sunday, the yahrzeit of the Ohr HaChaim HaKodosh, a special tefilla will be held at the tziyun for the rav’s recovery. That tefilla will be headed by Rosh Yeshivat Ohr Cham HaGaon HaRav Reuven Elbaz Shlita.
