Amid reports that Rishon L’Tzion HaGaon HaRav Moshe Shlomo Amar Shlita may run in the Jerusalem race for chief rabbis, Rav Amar put the rumors to rest. Rav Amar indicated that he agreed to the Amar Bill seeking to permit him to serve a second term due to the realization of the awesome responsibility of being Av Beis Din and the fact that so many rabbonim urged him to continue.
However, it appears he is uninterested in becoming a contender to serve as the Sephardi Chief Rabbi of Yerushalayim. It appears that Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef Shlita would like to see his son HaGaon Rav Yitzhak, the Baal Yalkut Yosef to become the next Sephardi Chief Rabbi of the capital.
