MK (Yisrael Beitenu) Avigdor Lieberman, who heads the Knesset Foreign Affairs & Defense Committee, feels members should be compelled to take a polygraph exam towards determining who is leaking information to the media. Lieberman is speaking specifically about members of the Foreign Affairs & Defense Intelligence Subcommittee.
Knesset legal advisor Eyal Yinon feels the polygraph may be problematic, especially if a member objects, the daily Maariv reports. The subcommittee members who would be compelled to submit to the exam include MKs Ofer Shelah (Yesh Atid), Aryeh Deri (Shas), Binyamin Ben-Eliezer (Labor) and Tzachi Hanegbi (Likud).
The ISA (Israel Security Agency – Shin Bet) rejected Lieberman’s request.
In another Lieberman related matter, the former foreign minister is calling on rabbonim and leaders from the chareidi and dati leumi camps to condemn the statements made by Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef Shlita http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/article.php?p=173052 against Rabbi David Stav. The Gadol Hador stated Rav Stav is not suited to serve as a chief rabbi, accusing him of destroying Yiddishkheit and the rabbonus with his hashkafa and piskei Halacha.
Lieberman feels that all religious leaders are compelled to come out in condemnation of Rabbi Yosef’s words due to the unprecedented verbal assault against Rabbi Stav.
