Sen. Charles Schumer wants to make it harder for college students to acquire prescription drugs like Adderall.

The senator says abuse of the drugs has reached crisis level, with many students using them illegally as a study tool.

He is asking New York’s colleges to implement tougher standards for students to acquire the stimulants without a prescription.

Schumer wants universities to focus on better diagnostics and promote awareness of the effects of abuse.

Studies have shown abuse of the drugs with no diagnosis can lead to depression, anxiety, and even psychosis.
