Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef Shlita in his motzei Shabbos drasha had harsh words for Rabbi David Stav, head of the Tzohar Rabbis organization and a leading candidate to become the next Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of Israel.
“הקב”ה ישתבח שמו יודע מחשבות, אדם צריך להיות ישר, לא בשביל להחניף למישהו שמים מישהו אחר שהוא גרוע. כל המעמיד דיין שאינו הגון כאילו מקריב אשרה אצל המזבח, אשרה לעבודה זרה. להעמיד צלם בהיכל- אדם שאינו ראוי”.
The Gadol Hador spoke of the need to be honest and straight, adding Rav Stav “does not have Yiras Shomayim”. The rav continues, speaking of the Doeg the Edomi who was a great talmid chacham in the time of Saul, yet we know he does not have a place in Olam Haba.
Rav Ovadia warns of “his friends and his [political] party…I received testimony that this man is dangerous to Judaism, dangerous to the Rabbanut, and dangerous to the Torah. And I should remain silent! Therefore I am compelled to act and I did as I did L’Shem Shomayim.”
The rav continued saying that a person who is not suited is being selected, drawing an analogy to bringing an idol in the Beis HaMikdash.
Rav Ovadia then begins speaking about Rishon L’Tzion HaGaon HaRav Moshe Shlomo Amar Shlita, speaking of the gadlus of the man, adding he knows Rav Amar well, praising his knowledge, his Torah and his personality traits.

Doeg ha’edomi was Jewish. Was not an Edomite.
Is he basically saying that until now all the chief rabbis where ok?
He’s evil because he’s not chareidi?!?
Kol hakavod to Rav Ovadia, he knows more than the rest of us. I am a Dati leumi Torani person a Ashkenazi tahor, and do not always agree with Rav Ovadia but this is a case where He is right Rav Stav has threatened Rabbonim over this he has refused to listen to Das Torah and has turned to dirty tricks in order to win this post. Maybe we should look and listen to the Dati leumi Rabbonim that are against Stav.
