The dati leumi community scored another victory, this time at the expense of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. Bayit Yehudi leader Naftali Bennett will appoint 15 new members of the voting body of 150 that will elect Israel’s new chief rabbis. Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu will appoint only 5 new members.
A meeting of the minds was reached on Tuesday morning, 4 Tammuz 5773 that compels Bayit Yehudi to support the Amar Bill in the Knesset Interior Committee and in return, Bennett receives most of the appointments to the voting body.
Bennett plans to appoint ten public officials to the voting body, all women, in addition to five rabbonim. The prime minister will select an additional five rabbonim. After approval in the Interior Committee, the Amar Bill will move to Knesset for second and third readings.
Shortly before noon on Wednesday, 4 Tammuz 5773, the Amar Bill was passed in the committee.

Dear Editor,
It has been widely reported in Israel that Sha”s has withdrawn the Amar bill, which they originally presented to the Knesset. The appointments that you a reporting were part of the bill that has been withdrawn.
The bigger news, of course, is that by withdrawing the bill Sha”s has all but guaranteed that harav Amar will not receive a second term. It’s causing quite a ruckus in E”Y.
Looks like a close race between R. Lau & R. Stav.
Anyone but stav I dont expect the charedi community to follow the goings on with Rav Stav but he has been threatening great Rabbonim if they dont back him he will take revenge
