A law enforcement officer was wounded when shots rang out at Harlem Hospital early Monday morning.

The incident happened just after 5:30 a.m. at the facility on 135th Street and Lenox Avenue.

The officer, a member of the NYPD, was apparently shot in the foot at the ambulance entrance and taken to the hospital’s emergency room for treatment. Police say he was bringing an emotionally-disturbed person inside when a struggled ensued.

The officer was shot, likely when the suspect grabbed his service weapon.

The injury was not considered life threatening.

One person was taken into custody at the scene. The suspect was taken to Metropolitan Hospital for treatment.
