Fire officials admit there may have been a problem with the 911 system that caused a more than 4-minute delay in dispatching an ambulance to help a 4-year-old girl who was struck by an SUV and pinned against a wall on the Upper West Side earlier this week.
Little Ariel Russo died at the hospital a short time after she was hit Tuesday morning. Her grandmother, who was also pinned by the SUV, was taken to the hospital in unknown condition.
FDNY spokesman Frank Gribbon told the Daily News it appeared that an EMS worker got up from his desk at some point and missed the transmission for an ambulance that the NYPD operator had relayed.
At some point, another EMS worker sat down, noticed the urgency of the transmission and dispatched the ambulance, Gribbon told the paper.

Got up from his desk for coffee and donuts? Retarded that just “getting up from his desk” would throw their system off. When someone calls 911, they have to hope everyone is sitting at their desk??
