Chabad Shaliach Rabbi Mendel Gurewitz, 39, was attacked by youths in the German city of Offenbach, German media reports. According to the rabbi, he was assaulted by six to eight “Mediterranean looking” attackers.
The attack, which occurred in a shopping center, was reported to local police, who are reportedly investigating. Mark Dainow, a local Jewish official, was critical of the security guards in the shopping center for failing to come to the victim’s assistance. A shopping center security official later issued an apology.
At some point, the rabbi managed to make a run for it and B’chasdei Hashem, a friend was passing in a vehicle and scooped him up and drove him away from the danger.
There is no mention of the rav being injured.
