Modi’in Chief Rabbi David Lau on Wednesday, 27 Sivan 5773 visited with HaGaon HaRav Chaim Kanievsky Shlita. The Gadol Hador gave him a bracha as he competes in the race to become the next Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of Israel.
According to a Kikar Shabbat report, Rav Lau asked for a bracha for success in the race and that he should be מקדש שם שמים with his actions.
According to the report, Rav Lau also visited with HaGaon HaRav Aaron Yehuda Leib Shteinman Shlita as well as with senior rabbonim in the dati leumi community, Rav Chaim Druckman Shlita, Rav Yaakov Ariel Shlita and Rav Elyakim Levanon Shlita.
Supporters of Rav Lau feel that like his father, HaGaon HaRav Yisrael Meir Lau Shlita, he is acceptable on all types of Jews and has been successful in his efforts to bridge the gaps among Am Yisrael.

Amen!
This shameful pandering by rabbonim seeking the “support” of other rabbonim for what is essentially a political patronage job highlights the question of why does EY need one “chief rabbi” much less two “chief rabbis”. The rabbonim should get out of politics and the politicians should get out of religion.
Gadol – I agree with your last sentence. But you have some chutzpah (which is generally good in your comments here) to undermine the positions of Chief Rabbis in Israel. Read up on your history and Halachah, as well as the decisions left to the Chief Rabbinate today and you’ll have answers to your questions.
#2. Who should he go to, the WoW? I do agree that Rabbonim shouldn’t be involved in politics. It diminishes them, but that’s the system.
