There are reports of another deal for the race for the new Chief Rabbis of Israel involving Tzfas Sephardi Chief Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu and Rosh Yeshivas Merkaz HaRav Rabbi Yaakov Shapira.

According to the reports, this would work for both the dati leumi and chareidi communities, since Rav Shapira is viewed as acceptable to most chareidim. The rabbonim are both respected, both the sons of former chief rabbis.

Srugim spoke with the rabbis after hearing of the reported deal, and they both stated that if such a deal is indeed in the works, no one has bothered to inform them.
