In a decision that will save the national government 6 million NIS, the order has been given to eliminate voter notifications, the notice that is sent to registered voters a few weeks ahead of an election. Some fear the decision violates the Arrangements Law, and as such it may be challenged.
The decision eliminates the voter cards ahead of national and local elections, effective immediately, but it leaves the Minister of the Interior the prerogative of sending the notices to residents over 65-years-old. In order to reach other registered votes, the Ministry of the Interior will have to rely on the internet, email or SMS text messaging.
