Israeli Concerns Over Syrian Long Range Missiles


irdIsrael has placed Iron Dome defense systems in both the cities of Haifa and Tzfas. Baruch Hashem to date, Syria has opted not to respond to reported IAF attacks against missile facilities in and around Damascus. The IAF has reportedly struck twice in recent days, once at about 4:00am Friday morning 23 Iyar 5773 and a second time on Sunday morning, 25 Iyar.

According to combine sources, Israel’s main concerns for now surround the Fatah 110 missile, a redesigned Chinese missile that can strike at any location in Israel with extreme accuracy. Iran began developing the missile in the 1990s and the first test launch is reported to have been in 2001, in Iran. The missile became operational three years later. Iran made advances in the missile with the assistance of scientist from North Korea, giving the missile a longer range. According to Iranian statements, the latest version of the missile can reach a target 300km (180 miles) with an accuracy of within 100 meters of a target.

Back in 2010, Hizbullah boasted an arsenal of 50,000 rockets and missiles including 40-50 of the Fatah 110s, which can strike Tel Aviv. Foreign media reports add that Syria has supplied Hizbullah with tens of Scud-D rockets as well, with the latter based on N. Korean technology.
