Ministerial Committee Says Yes to Women on Dayanim Appointment Committee

chnThe Ministerial Legislative Committee on Sunday, 18 Iyar 5773 approved a bill presented by MK (Bayit Yehudi) Shuli Moalem-Refaeli calling for fair women’s representation on the committee that selects the dayanim serving in the nation’s rabbinical court system. The committee’s approval must now receive Justice Ministry approval, which is expected.

The bill demands at least four women on the committee, which translates to half of the delegates representing Knesset, the cabinet and Israel Bar Association will be women. The bill also stipulates a female rabbinical advocate will become the eleventh member of the appointments committee.

  1. Its about time that women get some representation on the Committee that selects the rabbonim who will serve as the dayanim on EY’s beis dins that adjudicate matters of kedushin, gittin, kiruvs, etc. This decision does not mandate that women who have earned semicha from Conservative/Reform seminaries should even be considered. However, it does mean that orthodox rabbonim who have shown a lack of respect for womens’ rights under halacha, have a history of abusive conduct towards women, etc. will be subject to intense scrutiny from a woman’s perspective.

  2. To #1 – your arrogance and ignorance clearly shows that you are anything BUT a Gadol! There’s an old saying, “If you have nothing Good (I.E. of interest and intelligence) to say, DON’T SAY IT”!

It is clear to anyone of intelligence that this Government is causing it’s own demise. Nothing needs to be done to counter act them. They will uproot themselves.
