Dati Leumi Question ‘Chareidi Hypocrisy’

ovadyDeputy Finance Minister (Yesh Atid) Mickey Levy’s faux pas, referring to chareidim as parasites during a Kol Berama Radio interview with Mordechai Lavi on Wednesday 14 Iyar 5773, has provided a wealth of content for the media, both chareidi and secular alike. The Israeli press is having a field day with the interview and the most seasoned political commentators are shedding their light on the comments made.

The popular dati leumi Srugim website questions the legitimacy of the chareidi community’s outrage over the remark, reminding readers that prior to general elections, Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef Shlita referred to Bayit Yehudi and the dati leumi tzibur as a “house of goyim” and to this day, months later, an apology has not been heard.

The website commentary questions the statement which slandered and entire community, equating it to Levy’s remarks against chareidim, chalking it up to “chareidi hypocrisy”.

  1. 1. Lapid did NOT say anything wrong — all he said was im not religous – i dont tell you how to live dont tell me how to live– dont tell me i cant post on facebook on shab and i wont tell u what to do in ur private lives
    2. he said the same thing most FRUM people in NY say … dont have kids if you cant afford to have kids… its not fair to have kids and place the responsibility to feed them on some1 else- he doesnt want a medicaid state like NY!
    3. there is as much bickering between the relig parties as there is betwn the relig and non relig but the news likes the relig not relig more because its jucier… this a flaw on both relig sites and chiloni sites

  2. that’s called hypocrisy they try to forcibly change our lives wwhile they continually can do things like Goyim and try to force of to join their way of doing things

    Ever heard of motzi-shem-ra?

Kippa-sruga people do NOT live like goyim. They are shomer shabbos, keep kosher and taharat ha mishpacha. These things halachicly define a person as observant.

Most of the women are tznua according to the standard of their community. Some are not, however, I have seen plenty of D.L. women who are far more tznua than some charedi ones. The men wear kippot and tzitzis. Goyim don’t do these things.

  4. 2. Seriously?! ever take a look at the semicha pass rate between hesder yeshivot and charedit batei medrashot. Charedi is around 20%, hesdernikim, 65%.

also, the charedi media has long been known to untruthfully attack anyone who opposes it with slurs 10x worse.. I don’t see how this is anything but hipocracy

  5. Yitzhakb, it so happens that the source of some of that actually came from Zionists pre-WW II. They gave the Nazis YM”Sh plenty to work with in the way of propaganda against innocent and loyal Jews, and the Zionists admitted that “anti-semitism” would be their friend because it would mislead people towards Zionism.

The Zionists were the ones who told the Germans, pre WW II, that Jews weren’t “normal” nor could they be good citizens of another country, both outrageous libels and against our Torah, of course.

Regardless of the origin, nobody should call people parasites.
As for the comparison to Rav Ovadiah’s words, there is no comparison. He said that the political party supports bad things. He didn’t malign any entire community.

  6. Barlev – Rav Ovadia, Shlita, is as public a person as any Israeli politician. Our Chazal warned us “Chachamim – Hizaharu B’Divreichem”, so they apparently considered Rabbanim to be public figues.
