Attending a kenos at Orot College in Rehovot, Tel Aviv Chief Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau Shlita spoke in his usual eloquent fashion, stressing the importance of achdus in Am Yisrael between, addressing the lack of tolerance and respect the plagues us today.
When the question and answer session began the rav was asked if he will indeed run for a second term as chief rabbi if the age ceiling is lifted. Rav Lau responded, telling those present “I have a good candidate.” The rav explained that he prefers not to address hypothetical situations and what may or may not occur, but would like to speak about a candidate who is most suited, one with a wealth of experience.
“Is the person close to the rav?” he was asked, to which he alluded to a son, Rabbi David Lau, who now serves as chief rabbi of the city of Modi’in.
