Border police on Wednesday, 14 Iyar 5773 operating in the Issawiya area of the capital were attacked by violent Arab residents. At one point, when they were in life-threatening danger, the police fired warning shots into the air. The predominately Arab area is under the jurisdiction of the Jerusalem municipality.

One of the residents of the area was reportedly wounded by gunfire, in his chest, and he was transported to the trauma unit of Hadassah Medical Center in Ein Kerem. Upon arrival his condition was listed as moderate-to-serious. Baruch Hashem there were no injuries among the border police force.

It is unclear if the victim was wounded by gunfire from within the community or from the border police. An investigation is underway.
