New York City now says that residents who used their own money to fix damage from Superstorm Sandy may be reimbursed with federal money.
The New York Times reports that the reversal by the city for distributing an initial $1.77 billion in grants it was allocated was based on feedback it received during a 2-week comment period.
On Tuesday, the city announced a program that will reimburse “qualifying homeowners” of one- to four-family homes who paid for repairs that were not covered by insurance, FEMA money or other sources.
