On Wednesday afternoon, Monsey Hatzolah and the Ramapo Police responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Rita Avenue in Monsey. Preliminary investigation showed that a three year old child, from Rita Ave, ran out into the street and was struck by a vehicle. Hatzoloh treated the child, who they transported to Westchester Medical Center.
The child is hospitalized in the pediatric ICU at Westchester Medical Center with broken bones and internal injuries. The injuries are serious, but not life-threatening.
The Town Of Ramapo Accident investigation unit says that the accident happened when the young boy, who was walking with his mother, ran out into the roadway for unknown reason.
The vehicle was operated by a 32 year old male who was driving westbound on Rita Avenue. No tickets have been issued at this time.

I was driving on Rita this past Sunday – and 2 children at different times just ran out on the street without even thinking about looking . The children must have been in the 7-9 range. I was shaking!! it happened twice!! i almost hit 2 kids within 10 minutes!!! it is horrible!!!
Please talk to your kids about crossing the street!!! I beg you!!!

Parents with many children, as is sometimes the case in frum neighborhoods, cannot be everywhere and have only a finite ability to monitor their yinglach playing on the street. Its especially difficult in summer months when the kids may be home from school. Not everyone had a villa in the mountains or can afford to send their kids to an expensive summer camp. Ultimately, its the drivers that need to slow down (or be slowed down by speed bumps and agressive traffic law enforcement).
Gadolhadorah are you from Monsey Sv area? I watch this all summer the motheres are either sitting around shemoozing with their neighbours or indoors and the children roam the streets on their bikes without helmets, special scary with all the school busses, PLEASE if you have kids talk to them about safety we have had too many tragedies in Monsey.Have a happy and healthy summer.
