Following news that the NYPD have charged the man they have been questioning in the Brooklyn mezuzah arsons, 35-year-old Rubin Ubiles, Council Member Stephen Levin (D-Greenpoint) and Rabbi David Niederman congratulate the NYPD on their investigation. Ubiles has been charged with multiple counts of hate crimes in connection with mezuzah burnings earlier this week in Brooklyn.
Council Member Stephen Levin said, “The NYPD was on the scene immediately and didn’t sleep until the man behind these cowardly, hateful acts was charged. Their effort has sent a message that Williamsburg will not tolerate hate, Brooklyn will not tolerate hate, and New York City will not tolerate hate. Today, I thank the NYPD for their tireless work.”
Rabbi David Niederman, of United Jewish Organizations of Williamsburg, said, “Thank you to the NYPD who worked day and night to apprehend the person who committed these hateful acts. These crimes had an effect not just on the Jewish community, but every New Yorker who desires to live in peace with one another. New York City will sleep better tonight thanks to the tireless work of the NYPD.”
