Swastikas were discovered, this week, on the gates of the Jewish cemetery in Warsaw. They were apparently spray painted after many people visited the site on Holocaust Remembrance Day to mark the 70th anniversary of the liquidation of the Warsaw ghetto, according to a preliminary police investigation, which said that no signs of anti-Semitism were seen at the time of the mass visits.
Sources in the Jewish community demanded a thorough police investigation, saying, “It is unthinkable that exactly on Holocaust Remembrance Day, when thousands come to Poland to be with the victims of the Holocaust and mark the 70th anniversary of the liquidation of the Warsaw Ghetto, anti-Semitic elements can harm the Jewish cemetery, where some of the ghetto dead are buried.”
