New York City Council Member Peter F. Vallone Jr. today announced he has hired Jonathan Schenker to serve as an advisor to his campaign for Queens Borough President. Schenker will be conducting outreach to various ethnic groups in Queens, with a particular focus on Queens’ Jewish communities.
“Council Member Peter F. Vallone Jr.’s deep roots in the borough and hard work on behalf of his constituents make him the clear choice for Queens Borough President. Peter is a dedicated Catholic who shares the Queens Jewish community’s understanding of the major role faith plays in people’s lives,” said Schenker. “His chairmanship of the Public Safety Committee demonstrates that the security of New York City residents is of utmost importance to him and that the interests of communities targeted by hate-driven violence will be well served by his leadership.”
Schenker served four years in the office of the New York City Comptroller in varied capacities, most recently in the Bureau of Asset Management handling the NYC Pension Funds. He then moved on to political advisory work. As Political Director on the successful Robert Turner Congressional campaign, he worked closely with the district’s Jewish community, which comprised one-fourth of registered voters making Schenker’s outreach efforts instrumental to the victory. He stayed with Turner as a Congressional staffer until January of this year.
“I am very pleased that Jonathan Schenker is joining our team. Jonathan’s years of experience in New York City government and his attention to the needs of Queens’s Jewish community will further cement our campaign’s foundation on the dream of one, united Queens,” said Vallone. “If honored with election to the office of Queens Borough President, inclusion of and representation for all Queens residents will always be a priority of mine.”
