In September 2012, YWN-ISRAEL reported that Ivtsan, Netzer, Wolecki & Co. law firm that represented Marvel in Israel was filing a lawsuit against Kippa Man, the popular Ben-Yehuda, Jerusalem store that sells yarmulkes.
At the time it was reported that a 100,000 NIS lawsuit was being filed for the illegal use of patented symbols, including the Spiderman logo. Warner joined in for an additional 100,000 NIS over the unauthorized use of the Batman logo.
Store owner Avi Binyamin reached agreement with Marvel by which he will pay 25,000 NIS, considerably less than he might have been compelled to pay. Not only did Binyamin sell the kippot with the logos to retail clients, but he wholesaled them to other dealers as well.

….You cannot patent a symbol or logo-only products. Symbols, logos, or trade names can only trademarked.
