MK Porush’s Response to New Coalition Government

porIn response to the news that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu presented his new cabinet to President Shimon Peres on motzei Shabbos 5 Nissan, MK (Yahadut Hatorah) Meir Porush released the following media statement.

“Anyone who has a hand in this poor configuration which plans to sabotage the long-standing existing arrangement for bnei yeshivos and kollelim will earn eternal shame. Throughout our history, the Jewish People have been tested and withstood such tests bravely. This year, when we recite the pasuk in the Haggadah in a number of days it will have additional meaning; ‘שבכל דור ודור עומדים עלינו לכלותינו והקב״ה מצלינו מידם’.

  1. So will Degel ha-Torah, Agudah and Shas start working together to resist? Will they attempt to ally with other parties to oppose conscription (the three Arab parties also oppose conscription since they fear it will be applied to them, and many on the political left would also support an end to conscription)?

Does he remember that exemption from conscription was in return for his party’s support of zionism? Will they reconsider that position and consider aligning with the Eidah Hareidis. If the Hareidim reject zionism – then Jerusalem has a non-zionist majority which could have grave consequence for the zionist state in the long run.

  2. The medine is like an security company that lets criminals and murderers run amok and instead punishes the good guys.

Many US emigres to EY ramble online about how good it is and in reality they are suffering every day in every way and they rue the day they moved to EY

  3. “עומדים עלינו לכלותינו”?! – Is the UTJ seriously comparing am yisrael to pharoah and lavan haarami? Do they think that nobody notices or understands what they are saying? Is there no limit to their narcissism?

I am beginning to think that we should thank HKB”H for ejecting these people from the government, bivchinat והקב״ה מצלינו מידם

  4. Many people saw the zionists supporting Torah learning, and thought it was out of love of Torah, and didn’t realize it was a result of “horsetrading” with the frum parties. They disregarded evidence that didn’t fit their dream of Medinat Yisrael as a Jewish state. For such people it’s a shock to realize how much the zionists reject Torah, and despise hareidim. It’s sort of like the shock of many Germany Jews who thought they were so beloved by their fellow Germans, until they discovered that wasn’t really the case.

  5. The total unhinging of the chareidi zibbur and its politicians is a sight to behold. from all wha has been written in recent days, you would think that troops are at the entrance of the yeshivas in order to imprison the talmidim and close its doors. This is such a fantasmagoric idea that it will only end up hurting the chareidi tsibbur. The actual bill that might be presented is mild to the extreme. No criminal penalties, no attempt to force anyone into conscription. All it does, basically, is deny funds-i.e. money- from those who do not register and the mosdos who do not comply with certain regulations. That is it! In addition to having a substantial part of every incoming 18-year old chareidi class (at least 25%, maybe more) exempt, its main thrust is to deny funds-i.e.money to people who should not be in yeshivos anyway. I am sad to say that the jeremiads of all the chareidi naysayers has everything to do ,and nothing else, with money!!

  6. To About Time #3 above. Do you have any idea what you are talking about? We B’H made Aliyah lat year. We love it and would never think of returning to the Golus you evidently love so much.

I am not anti-Chareidi by any means. I have sons-in-law in Kollel and am probably considered “Chardal.” I am happy the Chareidi parties are not in the coalition. During the campaign and after, they have made such a Chillul Hashem with nasty comments about others, including Frum people who don’t agree with them 100%.

They should be reaching out to others and their opportunity for Kiruv would be great, if only they demonstrated that they cared for their fellow Jews and not just themselves. (that’s how it appears, i’m not saying that is how it really is).

I am fully infavor of Torah learning, but do you know how many Chareidim are not learning and not getting an education that they could actually support a family. There is another option besides the IDF. They could do community service too. With the amount of Chesed going on within Chareidi communities, those guys hanging out and NOT learning should do something productive for society.

Many people in Israel, and not just “Chilonim” are sick of supporting people that won’t help themselves and won’t contribute to society and just living off the dole.

Why is Chareidi non-learners more important that non-Chareidim who are actually learning seriously and going to the IDF after spending 2-3 years learning full time.

The IDF, due to a manpower shortage, took 500 Hesder Yeshiva students out of the Bais Medrash early because others are just goofing off.

Chareidim can’t have it all ways. People, Frum or not are tired of bearing the burden for the goof-offs (not the real Torah learners).

  7. To No. 12

Porush is a “has-been” and its not clear anyone really cares what he has to say anymore. The chareidi parties have totally failed to offer any vision for EY other than to pursue a selfish agenda of grabbing more public tax dollars for their mosdos and making hateful comments about all other yidden who don’t agree with their “gadolim” on the draft and other critical public policy issues. Their leaders constantly lied about all the issues of sharing the burden by claiming that any requirement for bnai torah to take a year or two off from kollel to serve in the Army would “destroy the yeshivos” .

  8. @4, 8, 9- Come on….you people are making too much sense here….This is not the appropriate forum for such truths.
