Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu wishes to remove the title of “deputy prime minister” from his not-yet coalition partners, Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid. Channel 2 News reports the two are adamantly opposed to the move, resulting in a last-minute coalition crises which appears to be preventing the parties from signing the agreements that would permit Mr. Netanyahu to present his coalition to Knesset.
Likud officials adamantly denied earlier reports that Mrs. Sara Netanyahu’s objection to granting the title to Naftali Bennett is the cause for the latest pre-coalition crisis.
The Likud has decided to elect Yuli Edelstein as its candidate for Knesset speaker, abandoning Reuven Rivlin, the party elder who expected to have his mandate extended.
When asked to comment on the prime minister’s decision Mr. Rivlin directed the press to the prime minister for a statement.

So, is there is, or is there ain’t, a coalition agreement. YWN’s reports do not make clear whether or not a coalition has been formed. YWN earlier reported that Shas was unhappy with the coalition, but it is not clear from YWN’s reports that there is a coalition. It’s enough to want to make me read the New York Crimes to find out what is going on in Israel.
