A man arrested in connection with a car crash that killed Nachman and Raizy Glauber and their baby Z”L was indicted Wednesday on the charge of leaving the scene of an accident without reporting it, and indictments on other charges are expected to follow, prosecutors said.
Julio Acevedo was not present for Wednesday’s hearing before Judge Alexander Jeong. Last week, he was arraigned in state Supreme Court in Brooklyn on charges of criminally negligent homicide, speeding, three counts of assault and leaving the scene of an accident. He was held without bail.
Acevedo’s attorney, Kathleen Julian, said the charges were too severe and told reporters her client has been vilified by the media.

Kings County District Attorney Charles J. Hynes today announced the indictment of Julio Acevedo, for fleeing the scene after allegedly driving a car at a high rate of speed into a livery cab in Williamsburg March 3, killing Nathan Glauber, 21, his pregnant wife Raizy, 21, and their son, who was successfully delivered prematurely, but died the next day. Acevedo left the scene and fled to Pennsylvania and was brought back to New York by the NYPD Warrant Squad on March 7.
Acevedo has been indicted for Leaving the Scene of an Incident Without Reporting Where Death Results. Based on Acevedo’s prior criminal record, he faces a maximum sentence of 25 years-to-life in prison.
The indictment charges that at 12:13 am on March 3, 2013, the defendant was driving a BMW northbound on Kent Avenue in Williamsburg that crashed into a livery cab in a T-bone position. The passengers Nathan and Raizy Glauber were killed. Mrs. Glauber was 7-months pregnant. The baby was born by Caesarian section, but died the next day. According to the indictment, Acevedo fled the scene of the accident, drove to Pennsylvania and surrendered to NYPD officers four days after the incident.
Additional evidence continues to be presented to the Grand Jury in the deaths of the couple and the child.
An indictment is an accusatory instrument and not proof of a defendant’s guilt.
The case is being prosecuted by Gayle M. Dampf, Executive Assistant District Attorney for the Vehicular Crimes Bureau.
