Ultimatum from PM Netanyahu to Yair Lapid

ywnisrael.israelIsrael Radio reports at 12:40 Tuesday 2 Nissan 5773 that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has given Yesh Atid leader Yair Lapid an ultimatum. The prime minister has informed Lapid that he is to forget about controlling the Ministry of Education. In addition, Mr. Netanyahu signaled he is unwilling to continue the game and Lapid will have accept the deal and reach agreement in the coming hours or he, the prime minister, will turn to the chareidim and enter into express talks towards reaching a deal by the end-of-week deadline.

It appears the prime minister must have read the new political map, one that will permit bringing the chareidim and Bayit Yehudi in to the exclusion of Yesh Atid. Israel Radio adds the atmosphere of brotherhood that existed between Yair Lapid and Naftali Bennett is gone and there may actually be a religious bloc in the coalition while Lapid will remain outside of the government.

If Lapid calls the prime minister’s bluff and rejects the deal on the table, and the prime minister succeeds in bringing in the chareidim, it will be interesting to see how The Movement Party will react with its new unexpected coalition partners, Shas and Yahadut Hatorah.

  1. lets hope this works out! I have a dati leumi relative who was going to vote for Bibi and I convinced them to vote for Bennet since he is frum he will stand for frum values. Boy was I off! Bibi would have prefeered the Chareidm who will go along with him as long as he keeps funding for yeshivas than stuck with this mess and if everything Yesh Atid says Bennett agreed to is true, he certainly isn’t concerned with keeping Jewish values
