Transit officials are considering curbing the growing number of rodents in New York City’s subway system with a product that induces sterility in female rats
The MTA detailed the pilot program on Monday.
The agency is working with SenesTech, a Flagstaff, Ariz.-based company that has used ContraPest in agricultural areas of Southeast Asia.
The product poses no threat to other animals, crops or humans and does not leach into water.
It will be placed in bait boxes in a handful of subway trash rooms.
