The Israeli Media’s Perception of Chareidim

charAccording to a poll of viewers of Channel 2 and Channel 10 news, viewers responding to questions of negative media image rate the chareidim as leading in this category with 50%. In second place in the negative media image poll are “settlers” (43%), immigrants from Ethiopia (40%), and Israeli Arabs (33%).

The poll included 737 respondents who represented a cross section of Israelis age 17 and older.

The poll adds that a third of the respondents feel that certain population groups are treated negatively or offensively by the media, particularly Ethiopians (14%), Arabs (9%), chareidim (9%), and immigrants from the FSU (6%).

Second Authority Chairman Ilan Avissar stated “We were surprised to discover that the chareidim in first place in terms of negative coverage in the news and Israeli Arabs fourth. 1. 1. The poll is of viewers of those networks, and as such is not necessarily relevant to discussing the population at large.

    2. The people polled apparently know whom they dislike, and and insensitive to media prejudice against them (since they share the prejudice).

    3. If this reflects what hiloni Israel really thinks, it is a strong argument on why hareidim should oppose zionism even to the point of allying with the Arabs. While it is possible to educate a bigot, it helps to be able to smash him first (e.g. denazification in Europe, getting American southerners to give up racism, etc.).

  2. Nebech! the secular Jews in Israel are more against chariedim that can chas veshulem make them for baalie t’shuves then against the Arabs that will kill them with rockets etc. Terrible to see what kind of an education they get in a Jewish state.

  3. Kuperman you are like a broken record with your “oppose zionism” and “ally with the arabs” nonsense.

No doubt had you been around in 1939 you would have been calling for us charedim to ally with the nazis

  4. meyer,

of course, the news media wants news coverage, which they get from terror attacks they lose viewers from becoming baalei tshuva

  5. Anyone want to consider why there is so much hatred? These people are not bigots. Aligning yourself with the Arabs against other Jews is a really good way to increase their hatred, if that’s what you’re aiming for.

  6. The zionists pretty much let chareidim fend for themselves during the days of the nazis. It was very hard to get into Israel if you weren’t a chiloni.

  7. thabo” “ally with the Nazis” — actually that’s what Likud (i.e. the Revisionists) were looking into. They approachs Mussolini but were turned away.

However if the hilonim are an existential threat to the Torah community, it will be necessary to find someone to ally with. To use your World War II analogy, it was necessary to ally with Stalin in order to defeat Hitler. Given the choice of an Eretz Yisrael that speaks Hebrew and is a people totally free of the yoke of Torah, versus an Eretz Yisrael that is under non-Jewish rule but allow frum Jews to live and learn in relative peace, I choose the former.

glad to see you prefer an eretz yisroel free of the yoke of torah… that’s a freudian slip if ever there was one

you seem to enjoy deluding yourself that the muslims dont want you just as dead as the next jew.

it’s all good and well claiming (incorrectly, mind you) that jews and arabs got on wonderfully for generations before zionism reared it’s ugly head, but that’s got nothing to do with the reality today

70 odd years after the establishment of the state of israel our muslim enemies see a jew is a jew is a jew.

given the chance they would cut the throats of every single jew here, man, woman child, chareidi, chiloni and every one in between.
when they are finished with that they will come to Boltimore and do the same to you.

your fantasy that just because you dont support israel (or on the contrary, look forward to its demise) wont help you when the knives are out.

the koran tells the muslims about the holy war they will fight against us jews. it encourages them to slaughter every one of us regardless of our political ideologies.

all in all, you are either deluded or a troll. neither belongs on this site

  9. #7- maybe if the chareidim would adopt the ways of R’Aryeh Levine ZT’L things could be different. He was very Chareidi and was zoche that his daughter should marry R’Elyashiv ZT’L.. and have a granddaughter like Rebbetzin Kanievsky A’H… we Chareidi have the power to change things.. we can act with ahava.. we can vote in the elections..

it is so a myth that under the goyim in EY things were better.. hence the army of the Old Yishuv.

Nasser would proclaim in the days leading up to the six-day war that he intended to wipe out Israel with the exception of Meah Shearim.
