Deri Blames Netanyahu in Part for Cherem Against the Chareidim

deriShas co-leader Aryeh Deri feels that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu shares a considerable amount of the blame for the cherem against chareidim in his coalition. On his Facebook page, Deri refers to his silence following the elections, but explains the time has come to break the silence and speak out. He feels that the hundreds of thousands who sent him to Knesset deserve an explanation.

“I am not talking about politics but values. I returned to public life with one goal in mind. I always believed and still believe that one may accomplish one’s goals without harming anyone” he writes. He continues by explaining his compulsion to assist those who lack, those who are in need of assistance. He points a finger at both Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid, citing those who belong to today’s new politics do not appear to share his vision.

He laments the forming coalition, a first, one that is composed of MKs representing the upper class of society exclusively without any representation for the real working class and poor. “Today it has been announced loud and clear in Israel that 2 million residents are simply disqualified,” referring to the chareidi community. He speaks of the “new bourgeois coalition” adding that “a leader should declare in a definitive clear voice that such actions are unacceptable.”

  1. Not really fair.

Netanyahu did his best to form a coalition that included the Hareidim and would prevent drafting yeshiva students, but didn’t have the votes. Likud may be a big loser in the deal, since as long as Likud has all the religious parties (zionists and hareidi) as natural allies, it was pretty much guaranteed control of the government. The prospect of the Hareidim moving to the “left” mans there is a real possibility of a government led by Labor that includes both the Hareidim and the Arabs – which changes the math of the coalition politics. Netanyahu is still trying to prevent this, for obvious reasons.

  2. Not Netanyahu, he’s just a puppet. The cherem should be on Dorit Beinish, self appointed anti Torah judge who’s running the government behind the scenes. This evil woman is the instigator of this entire affair and in general always critical of chareidim in general.

  3. Stop the blame SHAS.
The voters decided that there was a need for a change, good or bad, that is what an election is about. There have been many past governments that the CHaredim were not part of also and thrived and succeeded. Time will tell where all this will lead.
YET you can be sure the cat-calling, cherems, and negative statements thrown around did not add to a positive environment for Charedim. This time the media CAN’T be blamed.

  4. all of u americans posting on this site and on this topic are missing a serious point.. Israel is NOT the US!!!
Israel chariedim are NOT american CHariedim.. there is a hashkafa here that work is a 4 letter word!! and a college is a 4 letter word!! There is no such thing as people going to college and yeshiva like in chaim berlin or lakewood… doesnt exist… what happens here is people evade the army for x years and then work unskilled jobs off the books… going to army will be a bracha not a klala for them!!! they will learn skills and they will learn how to integrate into society and to spread torah to their non religious brothers and sisters…. what is unfortunate in this alot of the talk and alot of words that are coming out of gedolim are not actually being said by gedolim as quotes are coming out incorrectly OR the gedolim are being fed wrong info by people with intent. Israel is creating a medicaid state like in the USA which eventually collapses, in a small country like here where the DL/Chiloni family has 2-3-4-5 kids and the chariedi has 9-10-15 kids it will happen faster if not addresses and dealt with
