“Enough already with the pathetic use of the word ‘brother’” Shas leader Eli Yishai commented on motzei Shabbos 27 Adar 5773 in reference to Bayit Yehudi leader Naftali Bennett. Yishai stated that on every opportunity possible, Bennett is referring to the chareidim as “brothers” but his actions reflect a different reality, the deputy prime minister explained.
On Yishai’s Facebook page is speaks of Bennett’s “pathetic misuse” of the word, while reminding Bennett, “not a single chareidi will be standing at your side at the photograph”, referring to the official photograph of the new cabinet taken with the president.
“The 2013 elections will be remembered, during which the dati leumi and traditional communities banned an entire community, the chareidim, just for their beliefs and being who they are. The deep split that has been created will be felt for the years to come.”

great way of uniting the yidden! Are we surprised that there is such a chasm between the chareidim and Am Yisroel if such “sinat chinom” is shown by one of the chareidi leaders?
Like some of the other brothers in our history:
Yitzchok & Yishmael
Yaakov & Eysov
he is absolutely right !!!
But that is politics you say one thing and do exactly the opposite.
just for their beliefs and being who they are. not true but for not wanting to do army service or even national service like the rest
If the chareidi answer to every proposal is NO, and the chareidi leadership says in advance that they won’t compromise on anything, then perhaps it’s the Chareidim who ban themselves.
Yet another disingenuous comment. Charedim boycotted the government for decades.
But the relationship is just like “Cain and Abel” (Kayin and Hevel).
I didn’t know smushing him would give him anything more than a bad headache.
I didn’t realing that drafting all the yeshiva boys for three years would have any ill impact on learning Torah.
Bennett has probably destroyed Bayit Yehudi (proving that Feiglin’s approach might be more sensible). It is Likud, not Bayit Yehudi, that is trying to save the yeshivos, and it is Likud that is supporting the settlement movement (as opposed to Bayit Yehudi which is allying with Lapid, and alienating the Hareidim whose support has often been the margin of difference in the past).
Hey #1 reformrabbiofberlin: The only ‘sinah’ here is coming from YOU! Eli Yishai is one of the greatest ohavei Yisrael around today, so don’t you try and twist his words into the opposite – you only reflect on yourself!
Charlie being Charlie,
“Charedim boycotted the government for decades”
that is a broad statement, not all chareidim and some still do
the ones that didn’t don’t now and the ones that do still do.
To ido: you show your ignorance by your namecalling: reformrabbofberlin. Do you have any idea who the rabbonim of berlin were? Where do you think the Mesoras Hashas lived? ask soemone who knows R”yeshaya Pik-Berlin.
s far as Eli yshai goes, do you truly think that insulting another Jew is smart politics, let alone ahavas ysroel?
Peakman,
Who they are determines that they will not be willing to do national service, certainly not army. You can’t separate them. Only recently do we see some changes in the community which would allow determining that some can serve, but that requires some additional organziation before it can scale.
So your analysis is nonsensical.
CharlieHall,
Boruch M’chaya Ha’meysim!!!
Now that I got that out of the way, you do know that your comment was a complete lie, don’t you?
Yishai is 100% right. Lapid stated clearly and unequivocally that he is unwilling to sit with the chareidim in a coalition regardless of the issues.
rabbiofberlin: My apologies. May you merit to go in their ways…
Eli Yishai is pointing out Bennett’s cynicism in continuing to use the term ‘brothers’ whilst acting not merely against the chareidi public but to undermine the very existence of halacha in the state. Since we are dealing here with nothing less than the Torah world in Eretz Yisrael, neither the term ‘sinah’ – how much less ‘chinom’ – is justified
I don’t know – perhaps this is the logical continuation of Shas’s calling Bayit Yehudi a “House of Goyim” during the election. After all, why would Eli Yishai want to be called a “Brother” by a “Goy”?
You reap what you sow. Shas has excelled at denigrating those it disagreed with, but seem unable to take it when teh shoe is on the other foot.
