Yacimovich: I Didn’t Want to be Likud’s Hangman

biblLabor leader Shelly Yacimovich admits that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu offered her the post of minister of finance, explaining “I didn’t want to be Likud’s hangman,” opting to turn it down.

Speaking to Channel 10 News, the Labor Party leader explained “It’s no secret the prime minister would have preferred keeping Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid outside and have us in the coalition with the chareidim”.

“I did not want to be the Likud’s hangman by carrying out its policies” she admits. “He did not show any willingness to change the government policies in line with Labor’s hashkafa.”

Yacimovich in her media appearances during recent weeks explained that the Labor’s socialist policies are simply not in line with Likud and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and therefore it is not possible for her party to enter the coalition. She made a point of stating repeatedly that it is not a personal issue with the prime minister, but rather one of hashkafa, explaining Mr. Netanyahu’s socioeconomic policies are a far cry from the Labor vision.

  1. Why should Yacimovich throw away her party’s long term prospects for a bit of patronage. The “Right” is in the process of expelling the hareidim, whose economic agenda is identical to the left, and whose presence would make it possible to include Arabs in the coalition. If you can back over past elections, and imagine that the “natural” alliance consists of Hareidim, Socialists, and Arabs – it will result in every different outcomes.
