While Naftali Bennett is working to change his anti-chareidi image, MK (Yahadut Hatorah) Meir Porush is quoted telling Kikar Shabbat that he wants to know exactly what understandings were reached between the parties regarding changing the religious status quo in Israel.
Porush admits there are no longer any great expectations regarding Bennett, but he feels there are many members of the dati leumi community who are meticulous in their observance and they too are interested in knowing what changes in the religious status quo were agreed to.
“It is the right of Bayit Yehudi voters to know the situation regarding public buses on Shabbos and if there is any hope of compromise among Lapid and his colleagues… the dati leumi community has a right to know if there are changes pertaining to giyur as well as the position of party leaders on preserving kashrus, the Law of Return, and other matters pertinent to our lives as Jews here on a day-to-day basis.
“The chareidi and some of the dati leumi tzibur feel someone is trying to hide something and the party leaders are avoiding clear definitive responses on these issues. I feel they should make their voices heard on these vital issues that affect the core of the nation’s neshama.”
