On Tuesday 23 Adar 5773, Israel began its annual apple export to Syria, which this year will amount to 15% of Israel’s total apple crop. 18,000 tons of apples are being sent over the border to Syria, a move that began about nine years ago towards assisting Druse farmers sell their surplus of apples. It appears the export increases annually, based primarily on Syria’s ability store larger amounts.
The ongoing civil war in that country which has claimed over 70,000 lives does not appear to be impacting the annual event and the operation following the harvesting of this winter’s crop is underway Agriculture Ministry officials report.
